Personal Quotes
We are in the transportation business. We transport audiences from one place to another.
If I made films for the critics, or for someone else, I'd probably be living in some small Hollywood studio apartment.
Every time I make a movie I think that it's going to be my last one, I think that no one is going to show up. I always have this sense that they're all going to fail. I am scared to death.
I think that there's a certain synchronicity, so far, with what I like and with what the audiences like. But I don't make the movies for them. I make them because I wanna go see them myself.
Top Gun is no different from Pirates of the Caribbean - in fact they're very similar because both movies were working in genres that were dead. Fighter pilot movies had all failed and pirate movies had been dead for a long time. We approached them from a different angle.
I was always looking to be entertained. We lead such full lives and a lot of us don't lead very pleasant lives and don't like what we do... My dad worked his whole life as a salesman and that wasn't what he really wanted to do. He looked forward to two weeks vacation every year and he used to say to me, 'Whatever you do, make sure you do something you really like so you don't just have your vacation to look forward to.' And I love movies.
I think my success stems from one fear ... fear of failure.
I don't consider what I do work - when comparing it to the way my father made his living. He was on his feet all day long.
Salary
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
$5,000,000 + a guaranteed cut of back-end profits

Biography

The man who would be known as the brains behind Hollywood's loudest flicks was born on September 21st, 1945, in a low-income Jewish neighborhood of Detroit. His parents, both German-Jewish immigrants, lived in a tiny house in relative poverty. Nonetheless, they always dropped young Jerry off at a weekly matinee, where his love for film arose. He soon got into photography.Jerry Bruckheimer also discovered that he had a knack for organization. At age 8, he organized his own baseball team, with sponsors and uniforms and everything. At 12, he did the same with a hockey team. His passion-driven talent and eye for visuals won him several prizes in his hometown. After receiving a degree in psychology from the University of Arizona, Bruckheimer took a well-paid advertising job in New York, thanks in part to a commercial parody of Bonnie and Clyde he made for Pontiac, which was even featured in Time magazine.off to tinseltownBut making commercials was not what Bruckheimer wanted. He trekked across the country in the '70s and took a low-paying post in Hollywood, where he would chase his dream from the start. His first big project was in 1972, where he associate produced The Culpepper Cattle Company. Three years later, he was the full-fledged producer in the detective noir Farewell, My Lovely. After another production stint in 1977, with March or Die, he paired up with director Paul Schrader, with whom he produced American Gigolo (1980), one of Richard Gere's earliest acting stints, and the thriller Cat People (1982). But it was the following year, when Bruckheimer met producer Don Simpson behind the scenes of Flashdance, that his career really took off.teamwork = successBruckheimer's production partnership with Simpson was one of the most successful ones in Hollywood, and helped launch the careers of many up-and-coming actors. 1984's Beverly Hills Cop made Eddie Murphy a movie star. Two years later, Top Gun promoted Tom Cruise to showbiz royalty. Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) and Days of Thunder (1990) confirmed those facts. Together, Simpson and Bruckheimer were perfect partners. Simpson was known as Mr. Inside for his connections in the Hollywood world, while Bruckheimer's practical flair for filmmaking, plus his advertisement ties, made him Mr. Outside. It became clear what kind of movies the production duo were good at making. They had developed a keen eye for marketability. Bruckheimer knew exactly what a crowd pleaser should be. Teaming up with muscle-flick director Michael Bay, he produced the police action comedy Bad Boys, in 1995. That same year, he also put out Crimson Tide and Dangerous Minds. However, Simpson, who was battling a drug addiction, became increasingly difficult to work with, putting all the pressure on Bruckheimer. In December 1995, he announced the end of his partnership with Simpson. One month later, Simpson died of heart failure.flying solo to the starsAssuming both roles of insider and outsider, Bruckheimer's blockbuster credentials only grew. Shortly after Simpson's death in 1996, The Rock was released, grossing over $350 million US worldwide. He produced 1997's Con Air by himself, which was actually rated the loudest movie ever.Bruckheimer made his first venture into television with Soldier of Fortune, Inc., which was about special troops keeping order in a world of clandestine wars. The following year, in 1998, he produced Disney's highest-grossing action flick ever. Armageddon pulled in over $560 million worldwide. Enemy of the State, with Will Smith and Gene Hackman, came out that same year. From this point, Bruckheimer was divided evenly between movies and TV. In 2000, he produced Gone in Sixty Seconds, Coyote Ugly, and Remember the Titans, and executive produced the crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. The following year, he did Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down for the big screen, and helped start the reality show The Amazing Race, which is currently casting for its fifth season and won the 2003 Emmy award for Most Outstanding Reality/Competition Program. In 2003, Bruckheimer produced Pirates of the Caribbean and Bad Boys II, and is working on several TV series, including Cold Case, Fearless and Skin.In his career, he has worked with high caliber actors like Bruce Willis, Kevin Spacey, Denis Leary, Nicolas Cage, Sean Connery, Ben Affleck, and Johnny Depp. His partnerships with famous directors include Tony Scott, Ridley Scott, Michael Bay, and Joel Schumacher. Still strong at 58, Bruckheimer is currently producing King Arthur and National Treasure, set for release in 2004. For now, Jerry Bruckheimer lives in Hollywood with his second wife Linda.
